Jim McCutcheon -Biography

Jim McCutcheon, guitarist, has taught several guitar classes at U.D. as well as private lessons since 1978. He also directs the classical guitar ensemble. Jim received a B.S. in Physics from U.D. in 1973, a Bachelor of Music in Guitar Performance at Wright State University in 1978 and a Master of Music in Music Education there in 1991. He was subsequently awarded that school's first Distinguished Music Alumni Award in 1992 and the School of Graduate Studies Outstanding Alumni Award in 2002. He also earned a Miami Valley Arts and Cultural District Award for Individual Creativity in 1993. Jim is president of the Dayton Classical Guitar Society and guitar advisor to the National Federation of Music Clubs. He has published articles on guitar pedagogy internationally and has several items published by Heritage Music Press. Jim recently had a beginning guitar repertoire published by de Haske, a printer in Holland.

McCutcheon also performs extensively throughout Ohio as a member of the Ohio Arts Commission Touring Roster. He hosts "The Intimate Guitar" weekly on WDPR-FM (88.1) & WDPG-FM (89.9) and has released a number of CDs/cassettes: "The Spice of Life," which features a wide variety of guitar music including classical, ragtime, and original compositions; "The Guitar Man" (this link includes sound clips) and, with Mark Twehues, two CDs/cassettes entitled "Music From Around the World" and "Moscow Nights"--for more information, and sound clips, click on the underlined text to go to the McCutcheon-Twehues Duo homepage.

Jim Cutcheon, M.M.Ed., works with children across Ohio as "The Guitar Man" and with his wife, Debbie, has operated McCutcheon Music in Centerville since 1988.
