One can choose from a great variety of different great electric guitars, when it comes to guitars that are best suitable for metal. What one must turn attention to especially is what particular subgenre of the very wide term ‘metal’ are you looking to play.
To put it simply, the best guitars for different metal subgenres differ vastly, so talking about the best metal guitar as such is rather subjective. Nevertheless this list aims at bringing out some of the very best universal – and perhaps most notable – metal guitars.
Schecter C-1 FR Custom Electric Guitar
The Schecter C-1 FR Custom Electric Guitar comes with a quilted maple top, a mahogany body, and a set 3 piece maple neck.
It has an ebony fingerboard and 24 medium frets on a 24-3/4″ scale. It also features a Seymour Duncan custom humbucker bridge pickup, and a Seymour Duncan ’59 pickup at the neck. This gives the guitar plenty of vintage sound, as well as quite enough of sustain and attack.
This Schecter also features a pretty nice Floyd Rose-licensed locking tremolo bridge. All in all this guitar is one of the best guitars for metal currently out there, and could be considered a pretty good deal.
Gibson SG Special Electric Guitar (Worn cherry)
The Gibson SG Special Electric comes with a nice mahogany body and neck, Tune-O-Matic/stopbar bridge and a set-neck construction. It also features a great 22-Fret Rosewood Fingerboard and very highly regarded Gibson 490T and 490R pickups.
All in all SG has been used by the likes of Toni Iommi and that should tell enough about how great this particular guitar can be. It also doesn’t cost that much, so again it would be a pretty good deal. And of course if I would have to choose one particular best guitar for metal, then this Gibson might very well be it.
Ibanez RGD2127Z Prestige 7-String Electric Guitar
This particular Ibanez comes with a great basswood body, and a fast 26-1/2″ scale 5-piece maple/wenge Wizard Prestige neck. It also features a nice rosewood fingerboard and pearl dot inlays.
The V77 Custom neck pickup and a V87 Custom bridge pickup are also pretty remarkable, and are meant for capturing the low-end, while also producing some dynamic and warm midrange.
All in all this is a pretty great metal guitar, but it also costs quite a bit of money.
Epiphone Zakk Wylde Les Paul Custom Electric Guitar Bulls-Eye
Here is a guitar that doesn’t need much of an introduction, as it has proven itself as one of the most valued metal guitars through the years. It has a good mahogany body, with a hard maple set neck, together with a rosewood fretboard.
It is also equipped with pretty awesome USA EMG HZ- H4 and H4A humbuckers, giving out warmth and clarity, while having some great highs and pronounced mids. The LockTone Tune-O-Matic bridge and LockTone stopbar tailpiece also make for more sustain.
All in all this is a great versatile electric guitar that can be used for a variety of metal and rock subgenres.
ESP KH-2 Kirk Hammett Signature Series Electric Guitar
This rather expensive electric guitar comes with an alder body, a maple neck and a rosewood fingerboard. It features a bolt-on neck construction on a 25-1/2″ scale, with 24 extra-jumbo frets and an extra thin flat neck contour.
One can say it is just made for great playability. The guitar is also equipped with a pair of truly great EMG-81/60 active humbuckers, Gotoh tuners and a Floyd Rose Original tremolo bridge.
This guitar obviously costs a lot of money, but then again it is also worth every penny of it, as it is one of the best guitars for metal.
